Blizzard erects 4000lbs bronze statue of Lich King Arthas Menethil in T

first_imgIf you’re in the neighborhood and want to check out the Lich King for yourself, his new home is in the Calligraphy Greenway in Taichung, Taiwan. Hopefully Niantic sees fit to make it a Pokémon Go gym, or at least a PokéStop. <> Blizzard might be enjoying new success with Overwatch right now, but it’s not forgetting its roots. No, not Starcraft. It’s other roots — Warcraft. The gaming company has built and installed a massive 14-foot, 4,000-pound bronze statue of Lich King Arthas Menethil in Taiwan. The cape alone weighs 1,000 pounds. The sculpture was created by Taiwanese artist Steve Wang as a way to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Blizzard Entertainment. But really, do you need a reason to build a 14-foot bronze statue of an undead sorcerer? I should think not. Being awesome is reason enough. Blizzard has published a full video showing what it was like to bring the Lich King to life. This was not an overnight project, or even something that took place over a few weekends. It took a team of more than 30 artists and craftsmen nine months to complete the statue. The team worked hard to make sure the storied power and malevolence of Arthas came through in the final product. Blizzard expects the statue of Arthas to last a very long time. Bronze is known for its durability and resistance to weathering, which is why we find so many ancient artifacts from the bronze age still intact. The statue was also designed with harsh weather in mind, including typhoon winds up to 175 miles per hour.last_img
